Wendy Lynn Coleman, cherished daughter of the late Elden and Marjorie (Dudley) Coleman, peacefully passed away on December 29, 2024, in Raymond, Alberta, after facing her cancer diagnosis with remarkable grace, resilience, and courage. She inspired everyone around her with her unwavering positivity and deep faith. She was born on September 30, 1947, in Magrath, Alberta.

Wendy had a very happy childhood, and developed a love for service and hard work early in life. She attended school in Magrath and went on to receive her higher education at Ricks College, then BYU before returning to Canada. Wendy was an exemplary teacher for nearly 30 years, teaching in Grassland and Provost before moving to Cardston Elementary and eventually transferring to Magrath, where she retired. Her students and colleagues were inspired by her unwavering dedication and heartfelt passion for education.

She continued to contribute to the community after retirement, volunteering at the Magrath Museum for longer than anyone on the board to date. She always said she was “railroaded” onto the board. Her meticulous care and passion for history ensured that nearly every artifact and exhibit bore her influence as Wendy preserved the local heritage and organized the thousands of photos and histories of persons and places that are on file there today. She was the editor of most documents and articles that have been published and there is pretty much not one thing in the museum that does not have her handprints on them.

Her life was defined by her immeasurable kindness and generosity, spending countless hours providing service, joy and comfort to her family, friends, and community. She especially loved her Grandma Cecilia Dudley and spent many good times helping her in the bakery and taking her shopping. Wendy could often be found tending to the garden, a pastime she lovingly referred to as “relaxing.” She doted on her nieces and nephew, ensuring they were always entertained and cared for. She lovingly organized memorable activities, from trips to Waterton and swimming outings to scavenger hunts, movie nights, bonfires, and opportunities to learn and grow together. One of her most cherished traditions was leading her nieces and nephew on family history treasure hunts, where they explored ancestral stories and learned about their roots. She was a historian at heart, devoting innumerable hours to gathering stories from older relatives, preserving family history, and creating books to connect the younger generation with their ancestors.

Her devotion to service extended to her faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was an active participant. She served in the Relief Society as President, Counselor and Secretary for 3 Presidents, active Temple worker, and other meaningful roles within the church. Wendy’s home radiated warmth and became a cherished gathering place for all who entered. Every Sunday, she welcomed family and friends with a delicious meal and lively conversation, creating a tradition that brought generations together and filled her home with love and laughter. She hosted family sleepovers with popcorn and hot chocolate, and always made time to help with projects or write talks for family members, no matter their age.

Wendy left an unforgettable legacy in her family through her love of music and creative crafts. She instilled a love of music in her nieces and nephew, encouraging them to enjoy musicals and practice piano and violin. She delighted in creative activities, sewing, paper mache, quilting, and other crafts. Wendy’s generosity, inspiration, and endless devotion for her family made her an adored aunt, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her sisters, Carol Ungricht (Robert Sr.) of Orem, Utah, Noreen Coleman of Magrath, Alberta, and sister-in-law Pinky Coleman of Magrath, Alberta; as well as her nieces Stacy Ungricht, Dana Williams, Shannon Ungricht, Jodie Ungricht, Melanie Hasting, Lindsay Coleman, Kimberly (Sheyd) French, Kate Coleman, Janet Coleman and nephew Robert (Chelsea) Ungricht Jr and their children She also leaves her lifelong friend and cousin Mary Kaye (Chipman) Thomson.  She is predeceased by her parents, Elden and Marjorie Coleman, brother Gary Coleman, sister Christina Coleman, and brother-in-law Robert Ungricht Sr.

Honoring Wendy’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A private graveside burial will be held at the Magrath Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Magrath Museum in Wendy’s memory.

Wendy Lynn Coleman’s life was a testament to the power of love, service, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As one of her nieces fondly remembered, "Aunt Wendy had a way of making everyone feel like they were her favorite, and her home was always filled with laughter and love."

A Private Family Service will be held at 11:00am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Magrath Stake Centre on Saturday January 4, 2025.
