Vivian Scoville Preston Bourne passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 28, 2024 in Raymond at the age of 102.
Vivian was born on January 18, 1922, to Lizzie and Asa Scoville in Raymond, Alberta, Canada. As a young woman, Vivian served as a missionary in the Western States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she met her first husband, Bill Preston. They lived in Provo, Utah, and Denver, Colorado, and welcomed their son Billy. When Bill died in 1951, Vivan and her son moved back to Raymond.
Vivian married Ira Bourne in 1960, in Raymond and raised their two daughters, Barbara and Joan. They bought a home off Broadway, and lived in it for the rest of their lives. While the house changed over the years, they remained a pillar of the Raymond community. Ira predeceased her in 2010.
Vivan trained to be a secretary, and she had three separate opportunities to run an office. She worked at the sugar factory, where Bill and Ira worked, the high school, where Barbara and Joan went to school, and the town hall, where she got to see everyone. She knew everyone and everyone knew Vivian.
Vivian was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved studying the gospel. She was the gospel doctrine teacher in her ward for many years. She loved telling the story that she had been invited to serve a mission by visiting apostle David O. McKay who asked, "Sister Scoville, have you considered serving a mission?"
Vivian loved her family, especially her children, her grandkids, and her great-grandkids. Her home was always filled with family: siblings, nieces, nephews, and kids. Everyone loved visiting Vivian's. There was always a crowd for July 1st and Christmas Eve; her last few birthdays were huge celebrations. She loved having her grandkids come home with their children, and her great-grandchildren adored her.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Bill Preston, her second husband, Ira Bourne, her son Bill Preston, her son-in-law Todd Nelson, and her grandchildren David Preston, Stephanie and Christopher Bourne. Her survivors include her daughters, Barbara (Jim) Depew, and Joan (Leonard) Johnson, her daughter-in-law Maxine Preston, her step-sons, Alan (Pat) Bourne and Randy (Andrea) Bourne, and her step-daughter Beverly Barnett; her grandchildren: Jill, Mark, Sarah, Jen, Jesse, Briggs, Sarah, Adam, Steele, Cole, Cody, Tyson, and Levi, Jason, Angie, Jenny, Brad, James, Brian, Melissa, Zach, Quincy, Whitney and Torri; and her 72 great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will take place on Friday September 6, 2024 at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, RAYMOND STAKE CENTRE (2N 200W, Raymond).
