It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verner Peter Thiessen, age 75, of Lethbridge AB. He passed away peacefully on July 20, 2023 at Saint Michael’s Palliative Care Unit with family by his side, after a long battle with multiple health concerns.
Vern was predeceased by his parents, David and Susie Thiessen. He is survived by his 3 siblings; Victor Thiessen, Edna Thiessen and his twin sister Wanda (Billy) Clark. He is also survived by his 2 daughters and son-in-law; Pat Thiessen, Carey Salvador and Erv Slavador. Vern had 5 beautiful grandchildren as well; Madison, Greyson, Jordyn, Tucker and Lucia. Vern is also survived by 2 nephews and 5 nieces and their extended families.
Vern was born in Coaldale, AB and graduated from Kate Andrews High School, class of 1967. He then attended SAIT in Calgary, AB for his auto mechanics degree. After graduating, Vern returned to Lethbridge to work for Kirks Tire, followed by several years in the Precast Concrete business. He then made his final career change to long haul trucking and remained on the road with several great companies until he retired in 2020 from Degenstein Trucking Co.
He loved being on the road, but being home meant time catching up with all his old high school buddies, and co-workers, then relaxing with a good hockey game or NASCAR race. Dad had a good sense of humor and loved to tease anyone he could. To know him, was to love him. Dad was a great father, brother, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by many.
We are having a Celebration of Life on September 16, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:30pm at Roberto’s, a division of the Land of Lakes golf course in Coaldale, AB. All are welcome. Please bring your stories and memories as we are eager to hear from all those who loved our Dad.
