On March 16 2025, Suetake (Sway) Nishimura passed away at the Raymond Health Centre.  Born and raised in Raymond, he was the youngest of eight children born to Aiko and Buhachi Nishimura.  His father passed away when he was three and was raised with the strong support of family and community.  He received his education in Raymond, Salt Lake and Calgary and spent his working career in Raymond, Cardston and Lethbridge.  He and his wife, Toshiko (Totsy) were married for sixty two  years and raised three children all while caring for their parents as they aged.

Sway's priorities in life were family, friends, and faith.  Family gatherings, get together's with friends, and active involvement in the Raymond Buddhist Church/Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta kept Sway young at heart.  He always had varied interests, in sports - hockey, golf, in music - playing guitar, singing/karaoke, dancing, and dabbled in fly tying (though not a fisherman) and hunting (in his younger life).

The permanence of impermanence will keep Sway in our hearts and in our memories.  He leaves behind his wife Toshiko (Totsy), son Vaughn (Sheila), daughters Anita (Hermann), and Lisa (Clayton).  He will be fondly remembered by sisters-in-law, Grace, Betty, Judy and Irene and his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  He was predeceased by brothers, Takefumi (Taki) and Takenori (Nori), sisters, Kazue, Yukie (Floyd) Tsuyako, Ruriko (Steve), and Tsuneko (Kazuto), parents-in-law Shizuo Sam and Tomi Miyauchi, sister-in-law Sachiko (Sachi), and brothers-in-law, Raymond, David, and Kenichi (Ken).

Family would like to acknowledge the support of the many friends, neighbors, family and Homecare workers who aided Totsy in keeping Sway at home for as long as they both could manage.  Thank you to the staff at Good Samaritan Prairie Ridge and Raymond Health Centre who provided compassionate care to Sway in the last few months of his life.  They provided peace of mind for Totsy that Sway was in good and capable hands.

Funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM, May 31, 2025 at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta 470 40 St. S. Lethbridge AB T1J 3Z5.  Koden gratefully declined, in Sway's memory donations to BTSA or a charity of your choice may be made.
