It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Sonja Gwendoline Young, age 81, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 25, 2026, at Bethany Seniors Care Center in Cochrane.
Sonja was born on December 14, 1944, in Lancing, Sussex, England, and was raised in Taber, where she met the love of her life and devoted partner of 62 years, Walter Young.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sonja lived a life centered on faith, family, kindness, and service to others. Throughout her career, she worked many years in the banking industry, where she was respected for her dedication and caring nature.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Walter; her children Lori, Darren, and Shawna; her 11 cherished grandchildren; and her 9 great-grandchildren. Sonja’s warmth, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at the Coaldale LDS Chapel 2216 21a Ave, Coaldale on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 12:00 PM. All who wish to remember and celebrate Sonja’s life are warmly invited to attend.
