Scott Fooks Obituary

Richard Scott Fooks
October 10, 1959 - August 16, 2022

Scott passed away August 16, 2022, surrounded by family and friends at St. Michael's Palliative Care Unit. He leaves behind his beloved wife Colleen, children Sarah, Sam, Saidee, and Jamie (Ryan), and grandchildren Isaac and Florence. He is also survived by his 'favorite' sisters, Shannon (Rob) Mossey, and Lori (Dan) Williams. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman Henry Fooks and Georgia Green Fooks, as well as his other 'favorite' sister, Marci (Drew) Sommerfeldt, his father-in-law Don Doering, and mother-in-law Eileen Fairfield.

Scott was born October 10, 1959 in Lethbridge, Alberta, to Norm and Georgia Fooks. He was their fourth child and only son, named Richard (after Richard Burton - not the actor, but the neighbor across the street who the girls thought was cute) by his doting sisters, though he would always be known as Scott.

Growing up in Lethbridge, Scott shared his dad's passion for cars; enjoying 'rat-racing' with friends along 'the strip', and learning how to repair and enhance their performance. In school, he discovered and developed his love for playing and performing music. He played with the Big Band in Lethbridge as one of the youngest members at that time, and also played in the Stage Band while attending Ricks College, discovering his aptitude for multiple instruments, becoming proficient on saxophone, bass guitar, guitar, and keyboards.

His affinity for all things musical, mechanical and electronic poised Scott for his career as a versatile and resourceful performer and technician. After moving to Calgary, he took on performance and sound production of his own shows as a single, duo or band, and worked at Long & McQuade for seventeen years. Scott was well-known as a player who could work around challenges, often on short notice or even "on the fly. He remained a sought-after player and "fill-in" performer who could stand in the gaps wherever required.

Scott was cherished by his family, and he was blessed with many friends who also count him as one of their own. He was generous with his time and talents, lending his help whenever and wherever he was able. His welcoming and gregarious personality, along with his wit and genuine curiosity made him an engaging performer, and a lively conversationalist. He will deeply missed by the many friends and family members he leaves behind.
