Ruth Gurney Wilde, age 91, beloved wife of the late Gordon Wayne Wilde, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on 18 October 2024 at Raymond Hospital.

Ruth was born 17 January 1933 in Magrath, Alberta. She is the oldest of seven children born to Emery Howes Gurney and Minerva Lucile McMullin. She is survived by Barbara, Linda (Bill), Blair, and Shayne (Iris).  Ruth grew up in Magrath, graduating from Magrath High School. She married Gordon on July 3, 1952 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They settled in a tiny house on her mother-in-law’s (Katie Wilde) farm in Welling. Later an apartment was added to Katie's home for her, and Ruth & Gordon moved into Katie’s larger house. Grandma Katie became a vital part of the family. Gordon & Ruth raised eight children and many sheep on the farm. 

Ruth was a full partner with Gordon, and enjoyed working on the farm, family camping, hiking, attending their children’s sports and band events, family reunions, sewing & quilting, growing a large garden, and in later years trips and tours and doing family history. Ruth was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions, including two missions with Gordon to Tennessee and Virginia, and 13 years of service in the Cardston Alberta Temple. As their health declined with age, Ruth & Gordon moved to the Diamond Willow Lodge in Magrath in 2021, residing there until they passed. 

Ruth’s Christlike example, character and forgiveness will be remembered and appreciated. She often quoted and lived by the scripture Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”

Ruth leaves behind a legacy to be honoured by her seven remaining children, 42 grandchildren, and 97 great grandchildren, all of whom will greatly miss her.  Yet our faith and hope in Christ assures us she’s had a joyful reunion with her beloved husband Gordon, daughter Janice, and those family members who have gone on before.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M on Saturday October 26, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, WELLING CHAPEL, Welling Alberta.

Friends may meet the family from 7:00 to 8 P.M. on Friday October 25, 2024 at the Church in Welling or from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M. on Saturday prior to the Service.
