Ruth Clara Riethman Hudson

August 30, 1923 – November 19, 2024
101 years Old

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Good Samaritan Garden Vista Lodge in Magrath on November 19, 2024 at the age of 101 years. She is survived by her children; daughters, Susan (Ernie) Hendricks, Sharon (Bill) Ferby, Nancy (Dave) Berlando, Deb (Bob) Hansen, Linda (Dave) Baines, Marilyn Hudson (Barry Mehew), and son Jim (Elaine) Hudson, as well as 34 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Ken, son Steven (Heather) Hudson, her parents Ernest & Clara Riethman, and her siblings Sue Smith, Lloyd and Steven Riethman.

Ruth was born in Basel, Switzerland on August 30, 1923. At the tender age of 9 months old, her parents, Ernest and Clara Riethman, immigrated to Canada. They first settled in Lethbridge, then Magrath and later Raymond, where she graduated from Raymond High School. She met the love of her life, Ken Hudson, when they both worked for the CP Railway, and were married on May 3, 1946. Ken & Ruth had a wonderful life together for 73 years.

She loved being a full-time homemaker while raising 8 children...six daughters and then two sons.

Ruth was dedicated to her family, her church, and her community. She loved nature, sewing, singing and music, hiking, camping, good books, gardening and horses. She was known for her baking, in particular, homemade buns, butter tarts and fresh raspberry pie.

Ruth served many years in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in a number of callings, and loved serving with Ken in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Her most treasured possession was her family and her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Ruth was an example of Christlike love, and was well known to be kind, welcoming, caring and gracious. Her beautiful smile and happy, positive attitude were contagious. She made everyone feel special and valued.

Because of her remarkable influence, she will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Ruth's celebration of life will be on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 2:00PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Welling, Alberta Chapel). Interment in the Barnwell Cemetery prior to the celebration.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care our Mom received at the Diamond Willow Lodge and Good Samaritan Garden Vista in Magrath. We are also truly grateful to Salmon and Sons Funeral Home.
