Noris Taguchi Obituary

Noris Taguchi

It is with great sadness that the family of Noris Taguchi of Lethbridge, Alberta announces his passing on February 12, 2023 at the age of 92 years.  Left to mourn are his loving wife Sachiko, whom he married in March 1953, daughters Louise, Patricia and Karen of Calgary and Teresa (Paul Mason) of Bermuda, and grandchildren Alex and Kathryn of Bermuda.

He is also survived by sisters Kazuko Takaguchi, Keiko Tsukishima and Chiyeko Robinson (Charlie Price) and brother Kenneth Taguchi as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Kohei and Hashime Taguchi, sisters Takako (Joyce) Saruwatari, Tayeko (Jane) Terakita, brother Yoshio Taguchi and infant son Richard.

Noris was born the eldest son of Kohei and Hashime Taguchi on October 28, 1930 in Sunbury, British Columbia and moved to Alberta with his family after the war.  In 1949 Kohei and Noris started farming operations in the Picture Butte area and subsequently purchased their own farm in 1956 near Shaughnessy, growing sugar beets and potatoes.

He served as Chairman of the Alberta Potato Commission and Director for the Alberta Sugar Beet Growers Association. He was actively involved in the Picture Butte Buddhist Church as President and Director and was instrumental in membership and fundraising drives when the area temples amalgamated to form the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta.

Noris and Sach greatly enjoyed their annual salmon fishing trips to China Creek, BC, gambling trips to Las Vegas and Jackpot, and bowling.  He always loved spending time with family and friends and especially cherished time spent with his daughters and grandchildren, kindly offering his wisdom, guidance and encouragement. He will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank and express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Chinook Regional Hospital, Jack Ady Cancer Centre, Adaptacare Personal Care Home, and Alberta Health Services Home Care for their caring, compassionate support of Noris.

A Private Service was held on February 17, 2023.

The family gratefully declines flowers or koden. Donations in Noris' memory may be made to the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta (470 40 St S, Lethbridge) or the Jack Ady Cancer Centre (960 19 St S, Lethbridge).
