We write this obituary in honor of Mark’s own joy of reading them, and in celebration of a life well lived.
Mark Kim Kurtz passed away on August 22, 2025, at the age of 68. He was born on May 7, 1957, in Port Alberni, British Columbia, to Bob and Joy Kurtz.
Mark is survived by his wife, Rosa Kurtz, and his children: Maria, Taylor, Luke, Angelina, Kristin, Nikayla, and Natalia. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Corom, Darian, Hudson, Anna Maria, Geneviéve, Porter, Jaydyn, Luke, Jennifer June, Giovanni, Perrin, Tiffany, Nya, Théo, and Anveer. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dianna; his father, William; and his sister, Erin.
Mark lived a life filled with curiosity, cleverness, and generosity. From an early age, he was fascinated by engines, model cars, dirt bikes, and motorcycles. His happiest moments were often spent in the garage, at the lake, or around a campfire—teaching his family how to build engines, wakeboard, and embrace the simple joys of summer.
He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to the communities he was part of, and his sharp wit—always ready with a quip that could lift the room. One of his favorite jokes feels especially poignant now: “Why do cemeteries have fences? Because people are dying to get in.” It is a reminder that Mark would want us to smile as we remember him, not feel heavy of heart.
A Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taylor Street Chapel in Raymond on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Pound Rescue, a cause close to Mark’s heart.
