MacRay C Brown lived a full life of adventure, hard work, faith, and above all, devotion and love for his family.
Mac was born in Ogden, Utah, on November 9, 1940, to Cyril D Brown and Faye Christensen Brown. He had two older brothers, one older sister, and a younger brother. He grew up in Utah fishing with his dad, camping, water skiing, and cruising main street in his 1953 Ford Convertible. Then at 19 he had the strongest impression that he should serve a mission for the Lord. He served a mission in Scotland where his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ grew, and where he learned that he was happiest when he was loving others and serving God.
After he returned home, one Sunday after church, he said that the most beautiful lady he had ever seen came walking through the church. He proposed only 3 weeks after meeting Sandra Vance, and on April 2, 1964, they were married and sealed in the Logan Utah temple. They have been together as best friends for 61 years.
On February 4, 1967, Mac and Sandy had a son, Todd. Two years later on June 4, 1969, their daughter Danielle was born. They raised their family in Ogden and Logan Utah, then on the tropical island of Guam, and then in Calgary, Alberta. Family activities included lots of vacations, camping, Family Home Evening night every week, dirt biking, and cutting firewood in the forest. Mac loved spending time with the family.
Mac was an outstanding craftsman. He always had a project in the works, whether it was working on a car, building a house or cabin, blacksmithing, or welding together a trailer. He had a strong sense of adventure and travelled with mom often. He loved his service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has served in the young men’s program, as a scoutmaster, as a Bishop, in a Stake Presidency, and as a Stake Patriarch. He served two missions to the Philippines with Sandy. He loved Temple service and went to the Temple often with Sandy. He always tried to love his fellow man, and to love and serve his God.
Mac’s mind and heart always went to his family. He prayed for both of his children and his nine grandchildren every day by name. His final council to his family was that if you will try to be a little better each day or try and learn something new, you will succeed. He loved the scripture in Doctrine and Covenants 82:10 that states “I, the Lord am bound when ye do what I say, but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise”. The last words in his personal history are “Will you, My Family, Bind the Lord? Both He and I will be Very Happy.”
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday April 12, 2025 at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (338 5a Ave E, Cardston, AB).
