We are sad to announce that Linda Beryl Evans (nee Baker), beloved wife of Stephen Evans, passed away of cancer at the age of 80 in Taber on Saturday February 22, 2025.
Linda’s life was just one big adventure.
She grew up an air force brat as her Dad served in the RCAF. The family moved often as he was posted to different air force bases in Canada and Europe. She was involved in Girl Guides (and Scouts) and attended several Jamborees.
Later she learned to drive a dune buggy and ride a motorcycle. In a car she became a road warrior with regular trips from Alberta down to Utah.
She competed in the Spartan Mud Run Race. She medalled at the Summer games. And she set a record for the most senior competitor at the Calgary Stair-a-thon.
One summer Linda played over 100 rounds of golf. She also kayaked in Alberta and Montana. She has snow shoed Alberta and BC mountains, and was famous for her snow angels.
She biked in Croatia, rode in the Ladies Only Spinderella Bike Ride in Idaho, and has biked over the Highwood Pass and the Going To The Sun Road Pass. Many a summer she biked between Cardston, Mountain View, Waterton, or sometimes up Red Rock.
Linda hiked in Waterton, Glacier, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Yosemite, Death Valley, Banff, and Yoho National Parks. And she became obsessed with photographing reflections, wild flowers, and mushrooms.
She hiked around Mount Blanc, regularly climbed Bear’s Hump, went up Chief Mountain, up Bugaboo, and up Mt Robson…and she trekked to the Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal.
She has done the Chilkoot Trail (Yukon & Alaska); the West Coast Trail (Vancouver Island), the Inca Trail (Peru), and the Laugavegur Trail (Iceland).
Linda’s email address says it all hikerevans@gmail.com She was happiest when she was with her hiking buddies up in the hills.
She was Mother to Shelley, Kim, Robin, Lani, David, Michael, and Stephanie (7). Grandma to Elizabeth, Ashton, Paul, Sophie, Amelia, Vicky, Devon, Kayley, Lexi, Macy, Raelene, Evan, Emory, Olivia, Autumn, Clive, Brock, Gabe, Mikayla, Ella, and Zeva (21)
And Great Grandma to Paxton, Wyatt, Hudson, Easton, Bennett, Violet, George, Rosie, Scarlet, James, Mila, Jackson, Gemma, Vance, Evelyn, Kason, Keegan, Brexley, Kamari, and Willow (20).
Linda’s faith and membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints played a central role in her life. She served in variety of callings, including Stake Relief Society President. She loved to serve.
In lieu of flowers, Linda would appreciate a donation to the LDS Humanitarian Aid Fund or the Canadian Red Cross.
