Larry Gordon Varty beloved husband of Linda Joyce Varty (Mertz-Russell) passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday October 23, 2024 at Good Samaritan Prairie Ridge in Raymond. 

Larry was predeceased by his Father Allen "Bob" Varty, his Mother Lillian Varty, his daughter Tanya Moana Varty and his stepson Aaron Lin Russell.  Larry was born August 13, 1941 in Innisfail Alberta.  Together with Violet (MCDonald) they had 8 children Melanie, Leonard, Robert, William, Tanya, Sarah, Heather and Hiram.  With Janet (Mazur) Larry was blessed with an additional two children, son Adam and daughter Laurel.  On September 3, 1986 Larry married Linda and happily continued offering love, guidance and support as a stepfather to her children Tim, Trevor, Johnathan and Aaron.  Larry is survived by his sister Sharon (Michael) Herrington, his brother Jim (Marilynn)  27 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. 

Larry had many interests and hobbies over the years including carpentry, photography, running, walking, cycling, hiking, canoing, astronomy and ham radio.  Larry had a deep appreciation for poetry and literature and had assembled several into a volume he titled "Some of My Favorite Poetry".  As a prelude to listing the contents of the volume he describes them simply as "Life would have been emptier without them."  Larry wrote some of his own poetry and his 1999 composition  "The Last Span" occupied an entire page in the Lethbridge Hearld's tribute to the 90th anniversary of the building of the High Level Bridge. 

Larry will be remembered for his keen intellect, quick wit, and warm and inviting personality.
