LORRAINE MARSDEN

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, LORRAINE MARSDEN, at the age of 58. She had been surrounded by her loving and devoted family for months while she courageously battled cancer, and on the quiet morning of Saturday, January 2nd, she received her wings at 8:08am. She will always be remembered for her ability to make those around her feel loved, and for the way she could light up the room with her quirky remarks and contagious laughter.

She will be forever missed by her beloved husband of 40 years, Darren Marsden; son, Adam Marsden (Aaron Arispe); daughter, Tammy Marsden (Garrett LeGrow); mother, Lorna Deering (Larry Deering); mother-in-law, Christina Brooks (Lenny Brooks); siblings, Marilyn Komm (Garrett Komm) and Darlene MacQuarrie (Gord MacQuarrie); grandchildren, Aiden LeGrow and Emily Marsden; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and of course, her kitties. She is predeceased by her father, John Reese, nephew, Braden Klein, and countless other loved ones.

Lorraine was born on July 3rd, 1962 in Didsbury, Alberta, and in 1968 she moved to Lethbridge, Alberta. There she spent the majority of her youth with her mother, father and two sisters.

She was only a teenager when she was lucky enough to fall head over heels in love with the man who would be her husband- Darren. Wasting no time, her and Darren decided to run off to try and join the army, so they could be together. When that didn’t work out, they made the decision to get married at the young age of 18, and several years after they had their two children, Adam and Tammy.

Lorraine had several jobs over the course of her life, but she had never felt so welcomed as she did at Dorren Electric. There she had spent 14 years working as the Administrative Assistant for Diane and Kerry. Even through her illness, she was continually supported and always accepted as a part of the Dorren family with open arms.

Ultimately, Lorraine’s true passion was that of the deep love she had for her family, friends and pets. Anyone lucky enough to meet her and become a part of her life, could attest to the thoughtful and sincere woman she was, and feel the deep devotion she had to make others feel appreciated and cherished. From hot gluing pompom’s together to make little reindeer to give as Christmas gifts, to bone pillows she made for the cancer center to comfort those undergoing treatments, to elaborate baby blankets and quilts she made with her husband as thoughtful keepsakes for her friends and family, or spending days upon days baking with Darren to raise money for their favorite charity, The Last Chance Cat Ranch, Lorraine always wore her heart on her sleeve; giving to others is what made her light up.

For this reason, Christmas has always been her favorite time of year. From the time she was a young child right up until she became a grandparent, she would rush into her siblings, children’s, and grandchildren’s rooms to wake them up as early as 5am, excitedly saying, “come on, get up! It’s Christmas!”. While everyone would haphazardly stumble out of their beds, still in a daze from just woken up, she would sit on the couch, gladly watching them open the many gifts she thoughtfully planned out and chose especially for each of them.

Lorraine was always the charismatic glue that made everyone come together. Whether it be having a big dinner at her house for the holidays, singing her favorite songs with her husband and grandchildren or having a small dance party in the kitchen with her family, she always thought that being surrounded by loved one’s and cherishing every moment with them, was the most important thing in life.

Lorraine’s genuine and caring nature carried through right until her final days. Even while she was undergoing treatments for cancer, she always made sure her family knew they were loved and were taken care of. From her asking nurses for warm blankets for her children and husband while they sat with her for long hours in the hospital, to her always saying “I love you” with her last ounces of strength, her beautiful soul and big heart always shone through even at the darkest of moments. That was her gift to us all, and it will continue to live on in the many lives she has touched.

At this time, the family is asking that in lieu of flowers, to send donations to Lorraine’s favorite charities: The Last Chance Cat Ranch, Red Cross, or Saint Michaels Palliative Care Unit. Due to COVID-19, a formal memorial will be held at a later date.
