With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Katherine O'Brien Pratt Sandberg on March 18, 2025, at the age of 74.
Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who exemplified fierce love and dedication to her family, her church, and her Saviour. Those who knew Kathy recognized her pure heart and sincere kindness. She was without guile (except when cheering against the opposing team at her grandkids' sporting events). She built an environment in our home where friends felt welcome, comfortable and loved. Her life was a testament to Christlike love, shaped and deepened through personal struggles and challenges. Kathy's resilience equipped her uniquely to help others recognize their own divine worth.
Kathy dedicated her life to serving others. Her quiet influence, gentle smile, and compassionate example uplifted everyone around her. She shared her love and knowledge generously as a kindergarten aide and a community college instructor. Kathy also applied her gifts of compassion, organization, and problem-solving to a life of dedicated church service.
Kathy married Greg Pratt on November 20, 1971. Together, they shared a loving commitment to faithfully nurturing and teaching their children and grandchildren. Kathy lovingly cared for Greg throughout his courageous battle with cancer until his passing in 2016. She later found companionship and love with Phil Sandberg, whom she married in 2022. Phil was her devoted partner, walking beside her through the final years of her life.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Clarice and Dick O'Brien; her husband, Greg; and her older sister, Peggy.
She is survived by her husband, Phil; her children, Chris (Kimberly), Ryan (Shannon), Jeff (Jessica), and Tim (Lindsay); her grandchildren, Addison (Adlih), Ashton, Lauren, Kennedy, Kaden, Brycen, Kya, Olivia, Clara, James, Levi, Cohen, Ivy, Scarlett, and Autumn; and her older siblings, Sharon and Richard.
Kathy cherished the scriptures and found comfort and strength in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, her regular temple service and family history work. She taught the gospel, primarily through her loving and steadfast example.
She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday March 24, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, COPPERWOOD CHAPEL.
