On October 28, 2024, John “Frank” Johansen returned home to a joyous reunion with his heavenly family. He is survived by his wife, Ann Wright Johansen, his children Lisa K. Johansen (Dan Bolick) and John Scott Johansen (Marlaine McGary) and Nicole Titsing (Blaine Duhn) who joined the family at age 15. His grandchildren, John Blake Johansen (Bethani Watkins), Kaden Scott Johansen (Arden Evensen), Canada Analaine Johansen (Justin Beer), Myah Schulz and Madeline Schulz. In addition, when Michael Jared Keeping (Cindy Williams) was 18 months old, he adopted Frank & Ann as his grandparents. Michael’s children Haylee, Aubree and Hunter call Ann and Frank, Grandma and Grandpa. Frank is survived by his sister, Joyce Linebarger (Robert).
Frank was born on August 15, 1931, to John Vivian Johansen and Hulda Amelia Peterson in Raymond, Alberta. He was very close to his two sisters, Viola and Joyce. He received his early education in Lethbridge and during that time, developed a group of friends that remained with him his whole life.
Frank attended Brigham Young University, graduating in Chemical Engineering. From 1951 to 1954, he faithfully served a mission for his church in Argentina. Frank married Ann Wright in 1958 and the two built a life together in Lethbridge. He worked in the family business, Sturdie Oils, along side his mother until her death in 1978, and continued to run the company until he sold it in 1990.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served as Bishop, High Counselor, and many years working with scouting and the young men and other service opportunities in the Church.
His greatest gift was that he was able to fix anything. He had a clever engineering mind that solved problems and repaired stuff from plumbing to electrical. He made things better wherever he was.
His passion was the family cabin in Waterton Lakes where he cherished making memories with family and friends. He was a skilled snow, water and jet skier, boater and hiker.
For over 60 years, he was a member of the Lethbridge East Rotary Club, which provided him an opportunity to serve the community. He enjoyed volunteering in the 1975 Jeux Canada Games.
He felt the most joy while spending time with his family. He and Ann made innumerable trips every year to be with their children and grandchildren, participating with them on the ski slopes of Utah, taking them on unforgettable trips and being there on special occasions.
