Henry Koldyk Obituary

Henry Koldyk of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. B. Kay Koldyk, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital, on Friday, Nov 4, at the age of 85 years.  Henry was born September 24, 1937 in Margaret, Manitoba and he moved with his family to a farm near Baldur, Manitoba when he was about 4 years old.

Henry decided early on that farming wasn’t for him and he joined the RCAF in 1955.  He was always a very hard worker and  for many years he worked a part time job as well as his full time job to provide for his family.  Henry was able to further his education through the airforce and became an electronic radar technician.  He left the Air Force in 1975 and soon after began working at Sherritt Gordon Ltd. in Fort Saskatchewan as an instrument technician. He retired from there in 2000 and built a new house in Claresholm, Alberta.  In 2006, he and Kay finally settled at a Condominium complex in Lethbridge.

Henry had many hobbies throughout his lifetime.  He loved crafting with wood and he became one of the finest crib board builders around.  He  was a perfectionist and made beautiful things for his family.  Henry loved to go geocaching.  He still has a few caches out there and his handle was “hidit”.  He loved to go camping and he and Kay had many different trailers and RV’s in their time.  Henry loved computers and playing cards.  Some of his favourite card games were Hearts, Bid Euchre, Kaiser, Canasta and even the odd poker game.

Besides his loving wife Kay, Henry is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Janet and Chris Bice, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Betty Koldyk of Portage la Prairie, MB, Irene Koldyk of MacGregor, MB, Lily Koldyk of Brandon, MB, Brian Johnson of Calgary, AB and  Garry and Mayanne Johnson of Claresholm, AB, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Henry was predeceased by his daughter Karen Lynette Koldyk, his parents Rintje and Bette Koldyk, his brothers  Sybren, Johannes, Clarence and James, his sister Elisabeth Verspeek and his son-in-law David Hunter.
