Guy Daniel Lesueur Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Guy Daniel Lesueur, born at Notre-Dame-Du-Thil in France The 1st of April 1937.

Guy grew up during the World War II era and saw the invasion, destruction and, liberation of his country. I remember when he would tell me stories. One day,  when he and his sibling would go to school using the usual route, they realized that the Germans and the Allies were fighting and shooting ensued. They had to turn around and use a different route to go to school that day. Another story, the sirens to alarm of bombardment were blaring one night, so he and all of his family went into the basement to hide. One bomb fell on the front of their house, and one bomb fell on the back fence, miraculously leaving the house intact. To think that if one of those bombs would have hit the house that day so many people would never have been born. This really puts things into perspective on how our lives matter and how it affects the world through multiple ways that we can't even comprehend. Later, Guy was obligated to join the French army when his country was at war in Algeria at that time. He learned how to drive tanks at Orange, in France and he told me many stories on how much he was enjoying himself with his army companions. Coming back out of the army was a difficult time for him, but he did adapt himself and became an incredible mechanic. At first he was a vehicle mechanic and than he was working for Findus, which is Nestlé now, as a mechanic fixing the lines and conveyors of the machinery. He seemed to have really enjoyed this job and stayed there for a while.

In late 1970's, he decided to come visit Canada and the USA. He really liked Canada and as he had some family members here, he decided to go live in Québec permanently. This is where he met my mom, Johanne Serrecchia. He worked mostly as a mechanic in Québec but one of his favorite jobs was being a superintendent of a big apartment block in Boisbriand, Qc. He really enjoyed the community life there and he was always there for his son and only child and would bring him to the park or just let him invite friends at home.

Guy's passion, was nature. He enjoyed going camping, be it in France or in Québec, but his favorite spot was in Mont-Tremblant,Qc, where we passed a lot of time together. He would like to go cross-country skying, kayaking, bicycling or just going for a walk. In 2018, Guy decided to come to Alberta so he could be close to his son and grand children. There is no word to express how grateful that I am that he came here to be closer to us. Guy would come with us to Waterton, and even at 85 years old he would come and take hikes! He was a true soldier.

Guy is truly missed by his family, but we know that the promises of eternal life are not just fairy tales and that we will one day, see him again for eternity.

Au revoir et a bientôt, Papa, Grandpa, and dear friend. Tu nous manques.
