May 17, 1946 – January 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Gordon "Gord" Card Powelson. Gord passed peacefully at his home in Raymond on the morning of Friday, January 16, 2026, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving wife, Mona, and many of his children.
As a passionate and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gord's life was centered on his family, faith, service, and community. He loved his family deeply and cherished every moment spent with his 12 children, 51 grandchildren, and 15 great‑grandchildren, delighting in the joyful time spent with grandkids "tearing up the yard" building memories, and forging strong bonds.
A Life of Devotion, Work, and Adventure
Gord's strong work ethic and zest for life showed early. At 18, he drove tour buses for Brewster, then served a full‑time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the French East Mission. After returning home from his mission, he married the love of his life, Mona, on November 23, 1967. He pursued his education at the University of Lethbridge, earning his degree and becoming a teacher.
Gord began his teaching career in Foremost, Alberta, where he taught high school French and math. Gord and Mona also started their family welcoming their first sweet little girl, Lori, in November of 1968, and added another two little girls by April of 1972. In June of 1972, the family moved to Lake Louise, Alberta, where Gord operated a service station and towing service. There, the family grew by three boys, and Gord and Mona formed wonderful lifelong friendships that they've treasured always.
In 1977, Gord and Mona returned to Raymond. Gord took a position with the Town of Raymond at that time, and their family continued to grow welcoming six more sweet children. With twelve little ones, the Powelson home was full of love, laughter, and purpose, made all the richer by living near both of their parents and many extended family members. After retiring from the Town of Raymond in 2005, Gord began trucking with Western Trade Winds and was blessed to work for them for many years, and later for JENEX Contracting until he retired for good.
What Gord Loved
Gord worked hard throughout his life and taught each of his children to do the same. Yet his happiest hours were the ones spent together with family camping, river rafting, hunting, cutting firewood with the kids, playing cards with friends, and simply playing and working side by side with those he loved. He was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, a devoted husband, a gentle, steady presence, a remarkable Dad, Grandpa, and Great‑Grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.
Faith and Community
As a lifelong, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints, Gord served willingly and led by quiet example. He was a strong supporter of his community, quick to lend a hand and just as quick to offer a warm smile or a good story.

Gord is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mona; his 12 children; 51 grandchildren; and 15 great‑grandchildren. He is also cherished by many extended family members and dear friends.
