It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gordon Lane Phillips. Gordon passed away on December 4th, 2023 after a long and difficult battle with cancer. He is succeeded by his wife, Brenda and his two sons, Lane and Parker (Holly). He is also mourned by his brothers Robert (Sharon) and Maurice (Pam) and his seven grandchildren Adelynn, Peyton, Damon, Evangeline, Jacksyn, Harlyn, and Delilah.
Gordon was born in Raymond, Alberta on September 26th, 1948. He lived in Raymond until the age of 14 when his father decided to go farming and bought a farm just outside Tilley, Alberta. Gordon soon developed an interest in motorcycles and old cars. After high school Gordon entered SAIT where he applied his interest in mechanics to his passion for airplanes and graduated as an aircraft mechanic. After that it didn’t take him long to get his private pilot’s license.
Gordon became a flight engineer, then a first officer and then on to captain. He started out flying in a small propeller plane called a Lockheed Electra. Gordon retired from flying having flown many different aircraft but ended on one of the largest commercial aircraft in the world called a MD-11.
During his time in Tilley he also met and married Brenda Dixon and they had two sons Lane and Parker. During his life he lived in Alaska, Ohio, Utah and he even spent a couple years in between travelling North America with his family in an RV. He eventually returned to Alberta, Canada with his family where he lived a full and happy life.
Gordon passed away in Raymond having always lived successfully in the three most important areas of his life; faith, family and flying!
