Gordon Goodridge Obituary

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the passing of our father, Captain Gordon Goodridge, on January 2, 2026 at the palliative ward of St. Michael’s Health Centre / Covenant Health at the age of 93. We mourn the loss of our father but are content that he died peacefully with the solid conviction that he was going to meet his Lord who had prepared a place for him in Heaven. Gord Goodridge and his first wife Evelyn entered the Ministry in 1971 with the Salvation Army. Gord was a fourth generation Salvationist. They both served their Lord and those most in need in their communities faithfully for the remainder of their lives.

Gord was pre-deceased by his parents, Edward and May Goodridge, and his wife and mother of his children, Evelyn Goodridge. Gord found joy later in life with his marriage to Joyce who encouraged him to take up painting. His paintings were a source of pride and relaxation.

Gord is survived by his wife, Joyce, twin brother, Don, and his children, David Goodridge & Wanda, Paul Goodridge & wife Wendy Carew, Sharon Goodridge, Darlene Van Diesen & husband Francis Van Diesen, and Heather Goodridge. He is survived by his 13 grandchildren Timothy, Christina, Melissa and Jocelyn (David); Lindsay and Lauren (Paul); Adam, Allayna and Matthew (Darlene); and Rachel, William, Erin and Beth (Heather). He is survived by his 13 great-grandchildren Carson, Mya, Colton and Madalyn (Christina); Karise and Simon (Melissa); Jade (Jocelyn); Annaleigh, Brylee and Corallei (Adam); Cooper and Georgia (Matthew); and Ophelia (Rachel).

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Joyce’s daughter, Corinne and her husband, Eric, for their care and support of our father and Joyce over the last few years and particularly over the last few weeks. We also want to thank Joyce’s granddaughters Katherine and Megan and her husband Jordan for their visits as well as those from the Lethbridge Corps and Martha’s House that came to lighten his days. A special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff of both the Chinook Regional Hospital and St. Michael’s Health Centre / Covenant Health for their dedication, expertise and gentle care of our father.

We fondly remember the good times of family vacations, back seat down and all the kids piled into the back of our old station wagon towing a tent trailer halfway across the country. We remember outings to the stock car races (a favourite of Dad’s) and to varsity football games, family picnics and drives to get ice cream in a nearby town. We remember the joy of large family gatherings with a table for the adults and one or two for all the children.

He will be missed.

The celebration of life will be held Wednesday, January 7 at 2:00 PM at The Salvation Army Community Church of Lethbridge (1302 4 Avenue S, Lethbridge).
