Georgie Adams Obituary

With her family by her side, Mom fell asleep in death on Saturday November 25, 2023 at the of age 74 in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Georgie was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, beloved mother, grandmother (Kookie), great-grandmother, sister, aunty, and friend. She was the daughter of Paul Adams and Margaret La Grelle and born on April 2, 1949 in Wabamun, Alberta.

Georgie was predeceased by her parents: Paul Adams and Margaret La Grelle, daughters Anna-Marie Webber and Dodi Poschner.

She is survived by her children: Audrey (Stewart); Monique (Chuck d. 2022); Daniel (Charlene); grandchildren Cassandra (Daniel), Stephan (Melissa), Coralie, Deidra, Cody, Corbin, Sadie (Lawrence), and Theo (Chris); and great-grandson, Jake.

Mom was gregarious and although she encountered numerous challenges in her life, she was known for her bubbly personality and beautiful smile. She was a hard worker and had many vocations throughout her life. She worked across the countryside as a cook: including fly-in communities, hunting lodges, camps, restaurants, and catering. She fondly remembered getting an employment achievement award for cooking from Angelos Restaurant (Winnipeg), working at Prairie Theatre Exchange (Winnipeg) as a seamstress, and when she was an owner/operator, driving truck across North America.

After she came off the road she decided to go back to school. She completed her high school diploma and then went to college to become a certified office administrator. Mom used these skills working with Indigenous people at a medical receiving home away from home. But her love for the outdoors always seemed to lead her to work close to nature including Hecla Island Provincial Park and Oak Hammock Marsh. Mom finally retired.

Mom always made friends wherever she went. And whenever someone spoke about her, it was always about her bubbly disposition and her awesome smile. She was a social butterfly and she loved to entertain friends and family. You could be certain mom would provide an awesome meal and she was always up to trying something new. This was something her children recalled and enjoyed growing up.

In addition, mom enjoyed camping and the outdoors, writing, boardgames, cards, marbles; all of which usually included her children and grandchildren. As she grew older, she slowed down in her cooking but she looked forward to family gathering and spending time with her grandchildren and of course her furry grandchildren (Coco, Bo, Ginger, Shelby, Tango, Dolly, Luna).

Georgie was baptised as a Jehovah’s Witness on January 8, 1972 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and she was happy to learn the truth and took great pleasure in sharing Bible knowledge with others. Mom was proud to be involved with the Indigenous language group (Ojibwe) in Winnipeg, Manitoba sharing the message of hope and promise made by our Creator that God is not partial, and everyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him (Acts 10:34, 35). Mom often comforted others, reminding them of God’s future promise of living forever on paradise Earth, where death will be no more, and sickness and pain will not exist (Revelation 21:4).

Mom will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family, friends, and her extended spiritual family of Christian brothers and sisters.
