Gary Wayne Hathaway

Gary Hathaway, affectionately known as "Papa" to his children and grandchildren, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the age of 76.

Gary was the beloved husband of Ella Hathaway and a devoted father to Suzanne Hathaway (Michael Aasen), Shawn Hathaway (Gina), and Cory Hathaway (Stephanie). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jagger, Maddison, Shea, Samuel, Emma, and Henry, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He will also be dearly missed by his sister-in-law, Sharon West.

Well known throughout Southern Alberta, Gary built lasting friendships and respect through his career as a salesman and the countless contributions he made to local sports and community life. A passionate baseball enthusiast, he dedicated many years to supporting youth and local athletics as a coach, umpire, and referee. His generosity, encouragement, and love of the game left a lasting impact on many young athletes and families.

Gary will be remembered for his humility, sense of humour, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. He found great happiness working in his yard, taking pride in creating a welcoming home for family and friends. Above all else, Gary treasured time spent with those he loved most.

He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, community spirit, and unwavering devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to a drop-in reception to visit with the family any time between 12:00 and 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Salmon and Sons Funeral Home (433 Stubb Ross Rd S, Lethbridge).
