Elizabeth Leon Ryder Obituary

Elizabeth Leon Ryder, beloved wife of Wayne Ryder and mother of Scott Ryder, peacefully passed away on December 22, 2024.

Elizabeth was born on October 8, 1968 in Dar Es Salaam, in the Republic of Tanzania.  She attended primary school in Dar Es Salaam and then went on to a girls only secondary school in Morogoro.  After graduation she went to Tanga where she thought she would be starting a banking career.  Unfortunately, she lost her job due to bank cut backs and then decided to go back to school to study agricultural science at the Agriculture & Livestock College in Tengeru.  When she graduated, she went to Emboreet to teach at the Massi Agriculture School where her talents were quickly recognized and she was appointed Vice Principal of the school.  It was there that she met her future husband, Wayne.  After a little over a year, she and Wayne moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada where she once again decided to return to school.  While attending the University of Lethbridge she gave birth to her son Scott before completing a Bachelor of Management Degree.  Subsequently she took the opportunity to stay home to raise Scott and work on renovating rental homes they had acquired.  Unfortunately, less than ten years later she was diagnosed with cancer.  As with everything else in her life, she put up a good fight for five years before she succumbed to this terminal disease.

Elizabeth was one of those people who lived a life of gratitude and radiated that in everything she did. She loved everyone.  She especially tried to help those she left behind in Tanzania.  She had an unending love for them and did as much as she could to help them in their lives.  She also had a great love for her son Scott and really wanted and did the best she could for him.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband Wayne Ryder, her son Scott Ryder, her mother Mwajabu Sangali, her sisters Brenda, Suzanne, Joyce and Winyfrida Kazimili, her Brothers Andrew Kazimili, Francis Kazimili, Charles Kazimili, Steven Kazimili and Michael Kazimili.  She is also survived by four half-sisters and four half-brothers.  One half-brother, George Kazimili, predeceased her.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, North Stake Centre, 560 Highlands Boulevard West, Lethbridge, Alberta, on Saturday January 25, 2025.
