Debora Jean Harker passed peacefully early Friday morning May 15th, 2026 after a five-year battle with cancer. Deb was born January 16, 1953 in Cardston, Alberta to Grant and LaReine Harker.
In her youth, Deb enjoyed helping her parents run their family store, Hill Spring Supply Company, waterskiing with her family, and spending time with her father. After graduating from high school in Cardston, she attended college at BYU Idaho (then known as Ricks College) for a year. She attended BYU in Provo, Utah for her second year, and finished her last two years at Utah State University earning her Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in social work in 1975.
She returned to Lethbridge and was unable to use her degree, so she became a licensed Real Estate agent. She met and married her husband, and in her words “had a beautiful girl who was her greatest gift and accomplishment”. Her marriage didn’t last long, and after their divorce she relied on her family to help take care of her daughter while she built a career as a probation officer. Deb spent 36 years building her career. She enjoyed helping people and was proud of her profession.
In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling and was able to see ten different countries. She loved spending winters with her daughter and grandchildren in Utah.
Deb has a deep love of the Savior and her Heavenly Father. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held a variety of callings throughout her life.
Deb was predeceased by her loving parents, Grant and LaReine Harker. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Krys (Michael), and her three grandchildren, Bennett, Emmelyn, and Hadley. Her Sister, Kathy, and two brothers, Grant (Linda) and Brent. And her best friend, Colman Magnum.
Deb’s family would like to thank her friend and companion, Colman who devoted his life to her care as her disease progressed. They would also like to thank her ward friends for taking such great care of her. As well as the staff at St. Michael’s Health Centre for their dedicated care for the duration of her stay the last three months.
Deb will be buried privately with family. Her family and friends are welcome to attend a funeral service for Deb to be held on Saturday May 30th at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 175 Rocky Mountain Boulevard in Lethbridge Alberta. Friends may meet the family 10:00-10:45AM prior to the service.
Deb had beautiful blue eyes and loved the colour blue. As a way to honour Deb, her immediate family will be wearing blue to the funeral. They invite any others who would like to join them to wear blue as well.
“I would like to be remembered as a strong, independent person who loves her family to infinity and back.” – Deb Harker.
