Bill Morris Leggat

William (Bill) Morris Leggat, age 71, of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 16, 2023, after a short battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. 

Bill was born on August 2, 1951, to Lorne and Marion Leggat in Carman, Manitoba.  He spent his early years in Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Physical Education.   

Bill's career involved working in parks and recreation in Winnipeg & Brandon, Manitoba; Swift Current, Saskatchewan; and Grand Prairie, Alberta. He also worked for the Grand Prairie Health Region and in health promotions for Alberta Health Services in Lethbridge, before retiring in 2010. 

After retirement, Bill spent his winters in Yuma, Arizona and summers at Kootenay Lake, B.C. He enjoyed kayaking, running (having completed 5 marathons), camping, travelling, cross country skiing, hiking, reading, listening to music, and spending time with his family. 

Bill was a member of a number of organizations over the years, including the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine, and Lions Clubs International.  

Bill is lovingly survived by his wife Ardith, son Rob, (Krista) and granddaughter Jessie, son Scott, (Terra) and grandchildren Rylan and Berkley, sister Carolyn (Fraser), and brother John (Karen).  Bill will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.  In addition, we would like to acknowledge Bill's half-sister and brother, Angela (Geoffrey) Wynn and Michael (Jane) Shelley of Wales.   

Bill was predeceased by his brother Jim in November 1994, his father Lorne in November 2002, and his mother Marion in November 2010. 

The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care Bill received at the Chinook Regional Hospital.  A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and respiratory team in the ICU. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Salmon and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, July 22nd at 1pm.  If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Bill's name may be made directly to a charity of one's choice.
