SIMINGTON, DEANA February 24, 2018
DEANA SIMINGTON nee JOHNSON, was born December 12, 1926, the second child of Orrin Johnson and Delma Peterson Johnson. Orrin Johnson passed away prior to Deana’s birth. Her mother later married Miles Fairbanks.
Deana grew up on a farm in Barnwell, Alberta with seven siblings: Gertrude Fairbanks, Earl Johnson, Russel Fairbanks, Verna Fairbanks, Vivian Fairbanks, Jolayne Fairbanks, and Richard (Dick) Fairbanks. She was predeceased by all her siblings except Jolayne who lives in California. After high school she attended business school in Calgary and worked in insurance and real estate offices and at one time was Personnel Manager of the Lethbridge Woolco store.
Deana adored her seven children, 23 grandchildren (one deceased) and 34 great grandchildren and delighted in their accomplishments. One of her greatest delights was the sound of laughing babies.
She raised her children as a single parent through many struggles and did the best she could to provide for them. She sewed many pieces of clothing for her children and herself. She was an avid reader throughout her life. In her retirement years she lived in a lodge and after she recovered from a stroke in 2013 she moved to Good Samaritans Park Meadows with her husband, Glen Simington (deceased). She was well supported by the kind care of the staff there. She suffered a second, more severe stroke on February 19, 2018 and passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 21, 2018 in the intensive care unit of Chinook Regional Hospital. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ.
A private family Funeral Service was held on Saturday February 24, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, North Lethbridge Chapel.
